Gainesville Police Chief asking public to help fix memorial dedicated to Rolling’s murders. Gainesville Police Chief Lonnie Scott said, “I’d like to ask our community to take it upon themselves and do what they’ve been doing for the past thirty, forty-plus years to go out and keep it up, repair it, put it back to what it was or enhance it, but don’t let it fade away,” when asked about the state of disrepair of the memorial. /Link/
UCF put up a number of billboards to troll University of Florida prior to the Gasparilla Bowl. UCF put up billboards that stated, “124 miles to the future of college football.” The billboard had Ryan O’Keefe’s 54-yard touchdown in the 29-17 win over Florida on it. /Link/
GRU CEO fired by Gainesville City Commissioners. The motioned started by Harvey Ward ended in the firing of GRU’s CEO. Commissioner Ward stated, “Commissioner Ward said Bielarksi failed to deliver on projects over and over again.” Bielarksi had said at the meeting, “They wanted a climate action plan, check delivered. Hire a climate officer, check. I worked with the city manager to do that. Now what they said is I didn’t bring home the bacon on the UF bid.” /Link/
Cynthia Chestnut wins Commissioner Election, Cynthia Chestnut has won the city of Gainesville’s special election run-off, defeating Matt Howland by 244 votes. /Link/
Gainesville City Commissioners to meet to discuss ways to improve efficiency. They state their meeting will be to consider GRU consolidation along with other departments. Meeting in the past have been around the theme of improving efficiency. /Link/
